This week, we’re all giving ourselves a list of resolutions to work toward in the New Year. If you want to be a safer, smarter, more efficient driver in 2014, here’s a list of resolutions to think about:

Slow Down

In 1973, the United States lowered the federal speed limit from 70 miles per hour to 55 miles per hour. Over the following years, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration pointed out that not only did fuel consumption decrease, but fatalities dropped a 16.4 percent during the same period. A report in the American Journal of Public Health in 2009 noted that the U.S. experienced a 3.2 per cent increase in road fatalities when speed limits increased to 65 mph, resulting in 12,500 more deaths between 1995 and 2005.

Don’t Text

More than 3,300 Americans died in 2011 because they were using their mobile phones while operating their cars. Texting while driving is against the law in 41 states, plus the District of Columbia. Make it a resolution this year to put your phone down and concentrate on the road ahead. Zubie will be there to provide data when you’re safely parked at home or the office.

Be a Good Example

You’re the most important role model in your child’s life, and it isn’t just at home or in a public place. When you’re driving, it’s important that your children see your courteous behavior, your good driving habits and your resistance in engaging in aggressive behavior on the road. With Zubie along for the ride, you can show your kids how safe driving can result in better fuel economy.

Monitor Your Teen’s Driving Habits

The first year of a teen’s driving life is by far the most dangerous year they will ever experience. It’s important to keep an eye on their driving habits, even when you’re not in the car. Zubie helps you monitor those habits, along with alerting you when your teen has left on a trip, or arrived at their destination.

Maintain Your Ride

Cars built over the last decade are incredibly precise, high-technology machines that provide years of dutiful service. But they need to be fixed occasionally. Ignoring a trouble code or a Check Engine light might seem harmless enough, but doing so can cause a chain reaction of faults from the vehicle’s many other sensors and electronic parts. Zubie helps you be aware of the issue, and provides valuable data on what it should cost to get fixed. A timely repair can save thousands of dollars in additional repairs and decreased fuel economy down the road.

2014 is going to be a great year. Let Zubie help you make it even better.

PS: Thanks to your help, we’ve made it as a finalist in the 2014 CES Mobile Apps Showdown at the International CES Show in Las Vegas on January 8. We’ll have more information on how you can help us win the next challenge in an upcoming post. For now, thank you for your support!
